Effect of curvature squared corrections in AdS on the viscosity of the dual gauge theory

چکیده
We use the real-time finite-temperature AdS/CFT correspondence to compute the effect of general R corrections to the gravitational action in AdS space on the shear viscosity of the dual gauge theory. The R terms in AdS5 are determined by the central charges of the CFT. We present an example of a four-dimensional gauge theory in which the conjectured lower bound of 1/4π on the viscosity-to-entropy ratio is violated for finite N .

Five Easy Pieces: The Dynamics of Quarks in Strongly Coupled Plasmas
We revisit the analysis of the drag a massive quark experiences and the wake it creates at a temperature T while moving through a plasma using a gravity dual that captures the renormalisation group runnings in the dual gauge theory. Our gravity dual has a black hole and seven branes embedded via Ouyang embedding, but the geometry is a deformation of the usual conifold metric. In particular the ...
متن کامل1/N Effects in Non-Relativistic Gauge-Gravity Duality
We argue that higher-curvature terms in the gravitational Lagrangian lead, via non-relativistic gauge-gravity duality, to finite renormalization of the dynamical exponent of the dual conformal field theory. Our argument includes a proof of the non-renormalization of the Schrödinger and Lifshitz metrics beyond rescalings of their parameters, directly generalizing the AdS case. We use this effect...
متن کاملThe Double Life of Thermal QCD
We study the gravity dual of a thermal gauge theory whose behavior parallels that of thermal QCD in the far IR. The UV of our theory has infinite degrees of freedom. We holographically renormalize the supergravity action to compute the stress tensor of the dual gauge theory with fundamental flavors incorporating the logarithmic running of the gauge coupling. From the stress tensor we obtain the...
متن کاملShear viscosity from R-charged AdS black holes
We compute the shear viscosity in the supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory dual to the STU background. This is an example of thermal gauge theory with a nonzero chemical potential. The quotient of the shear viscosity over the entropy density exhibits no deviation from the well known result η/s = 1/4π.
متن کاملShear Viscosity from Effective Couplings of Gravitons
We calculate the shear viscosity of field theories with gravity duals using Kubo-formula by calculating the Green function of dual transverse gravitons and confirm that the value of the shear viscosity is fully determined by the effective coupling of transverse gravitons on the horizon. We calculate the effective coupling of transverse gravitons for Einstein and GaussBonnet gravities coupled wi...
